The future of energy is now!
Assen, July 25, 2024 - With the Tube Trailer Filling Station (TTFS), Resato Hydrogen Technology bridges the missing link in the hydrogen supply chain. On July 16, we proudly celebrated the launch of our TTFS in Assen.
Europe has set ambitious goals to reduce CO2 emissions, and hydrogen plays a crucial role in achieving these targets. Despite numerous large-scale electrolysis projects, many are delayed due to postponed final investment decisions (FID). In addition to financial delays, there are technical challenges in developing these large electrolyzers, resulting in longer times before these projects come to market and delaying the availability of much-needed green hydrogen. But we can't wait any longer - we need solutions now!
Currently, electrolysis companies have the capacity to build smaller units. A 5MW electrolyzer has emerged as a fundamental building block for this industry. These units can be combined to create energy hubs ranging from 5MW to 30MW, providing a practical way to scale up hydrogen production. Our market research indicates that hydrogen will be produced locally where energy is cheapest, such as at solar parks, which will develop into hydrogen hubs. While these hubs can produce and use hydrogen locally, a link is missing in efficiently delivering hydrogen to where it is most needed.
The Missing Link
Market research has shown that in the near future, the most feasible method for transporting clean hydrogen will be via hydrogen Tube Trailers. In response to this need, Resato Hydrogen Technology has developed the Tube Trailer Filling Station (TTFS). Due to the high demand for dynamic system use, Resato Hydrogen Technology, in collaboration with Van Halteren, has designed a unique high-capacity compression system. This system supports an unlimited number of start/stops, has adjustable capacity, and a long lifespan.
The system is designed to be scalable. Electrolyzers achieve higher capacities by stacking multiple electrolyzers. Therefore, Resato Hydrogen Technology developed the Tube Trailer Filling Station (TTFS) with the scalability to serve an electrolyzer capacity of 5 to 30MW. The product can also be scaled up to 14 filling stations, depending on our customers' needs.
Recognizing that this is a new product in a new market, and that there are currently no standardized filling pressures for tube trailers, Resato Hydrogen Technology offers up to four different pressure levels. This allows safe filling of tube trailers from 200 to 500 BAR, providing flexibility for customers to choose the best option for their needs.
Why Dynamic Use?
Focusing on Total Cost of Ownership, Resato Hydrogen Technology has carefully considered the business needs of its customers. For example, if you manage a small local energy hub connected to a solar park, you might only produce hydrogen during daylight hours. At night, when production stops, the compressor needs to be shut down. Similarly, if electricity prices are high, it may be more cost-effective to shut down or reduce the operation of the electrolyzer. When electricity prices are low, it becomes more economical to run the systems. Flexibility is essential for these energy hubs. Therefore, Resato Hydrogen Technology designed the Tube Trailer Filling Station (TTFS) to start and stop easily as needed. This design ensures that the compression system can adapt to changing operational demands and cost conditions, making it a practical solution for dynamic energy environments.
Maintenance
The second key focus for our product is maintenance. Operational expenditures (OPEX) are a significant factor in the hydrogen compression cycle. Therefore, Resato Hydrogen Technology collaborated with Van Halteren to introduce a new sealing technology. This advanced solution significantly extends the time between maintenance checks, reducing OPEX. With less downtime and fewer visits from our service teams, our customers have lower costs and improved efficiency. Our goal is to extend maintenance intervals to lower our customers' TCO. Reliability is another aspect that contributes to our customers' TCO. The uptime of our existing stations is 96%, and for the Tube Trailer Filling Station, this percentage is expected to be even higher.
Modular Design
Thirdly, and certainly not least, the system is modular. Resato Hydrogen Technology recognizes that customers need the flexibility to expand their systems over time. For example, a customer might start with a 5MW module but eventually plan to scale up to 30MW. Initially, it may not be feasible to invest in a compressor that can handle 30MW, so they can choose to defer this capital expenditure (CAPEX).
Resato Hydrogen Technology's Tube Trailer Filling Station allows customers to purchase additional modules as their needs grow. If higher pressure levels for Tube Trailers are needed later, additional compression stages can be added. This modular approach ensures that customers can scale their systems efficiently and cost-effectively. With the Tube Trailer Filling Station, Resato Hydrogen Technology connects the missing link in the hydrogen supply chain.
